The 79-inch height isn’t a random choice. After handling quite a few school projects, we noticed the empty wall space at the back of most classrooms falls around this dimension—one step taller and it hits the ceiling speakers, one step shorter and you’re wasting the storage potential of an entire wall.

This model comes in a light wood-grain finish. It’s not actual wood—it’s wood-pattern powder coating over steel plate. You get the visual warmth of wood without the downsides: no moisture warping, no termites, and you can wipe it down with a damp cloth without worrying about paint peeling. A procurement officer once told us pure white starts showing scuffs pretty quickly in a busy classroom; the light wood-grain hides wear a bit better and looks less sterile.

Why This Model Tends to Get Reordered by Schools

Between you and me, most steel bookshelves look basically the same from the outside. The difference shows after two or three years of daily use.

The main selling point here is the KD flat-pack design. Each unit ships with Chinese and English assembly diagrams, connectors, and an Allen key. One person can assemble a unit in about 20 minutes. No need for a professional installation crew—school maintenance staff can handle it themselves. Quite a few procurement officers have mentioned this to us specifically; it saves them the hassle of coordinating outside contractors.

The double-sided design means you can place it against a wall or back-to-back with another unit. Most of the library orders we’ve handled use the back-to-back setup—one aisle in the middle, access from both sides, much better space efficiency.

The base is extra-wide—about 60mm wider than the standard version. Shelf spacing adjusts in 25mm increments, so everything from A4 textbooks to oversized picture books finds a spot.

What It’s Like in Actual School Use

Primary and secondary classrooms: A fully loaded unit holds 200–250 textbooks. We usually suggest keeping less-used reference materials on the top tier and daily-use items on tiers two and three, so students don’t have to stretch or crouch to reach what they need. The shelf edges have a rolled hem, not sharp corners—elementary schools care about this.

School libraries: The light wood-grain pairs well with the gray shelves, and it looks less institutional than pure white. The reversible bookends mean books on both sides stay separate when you’re accessing from either side.

Kindergartens: Exposed corners are radius-rounded—formed in the die, not added-on corner guards that eventually fall off. A procurement officer once told us about a child who needed three stitches after running into a sharp corner on their previous bookshelf. They replaced the entire batch after that.

Light wood-grain is the standard color for this model. Special colors are available but require a separate powder run with a higher MOQ. The main frame can be used on its own, or you can add add-on units later—a lot of customers start with two main frames to test, then expand with add-on units once they confirm there are no issues.

There are pre-punched cable routing holes at the back of the shelf. Some customers use these for wiring electronic tagging systems—a detail a lot of factories don’t think to mention.

Questions Procurement Teams Ask Most Often

How long does assembly actually take? We’ve timed it—20 minutes for someone who’s done it before. First unit might take 30–40 minutes if you’re figuring it out as you go, but by the second one you’ll have the rhythm down. Expansion bolts and the Allen key are both in the accessory pack—no need to run out and buy extra tools.

What if items arrive damaged after sea freight? Our packaging passes a 1.2-meter drop test, but ocean shipping is rough. If you find dented panels on arrival, send photos and we’ll verify and arrange replacements. For orders under 100 units, we typically see two or three damaged cartons per shipment, and we cover replacements beyond the first one or two.

Can we get a sample first? Yes. Sample fee is at ex-factory price, and it’s refunded when the formal order reaches 50 units. Samples come off the same production line as bulk orders—we don’t keep a separate “showroom inventory” with better materials. One customer bought two samples, kept them in actual use for six months with no deformation and no coating issues, then placed a 200-unit order.

How does the warranty work? The shelf itself has a one-year warranty. Small replaceable parts (bolts, bookend clips, etc.) can be re-ordered at cost indefinitely—you don’t need to buy a whole new unit because you lost a few screws. We had a customer who moved campuses after six years and had lost some hardware; we sent replacements at cost only.

About Luoyang Hengna

We run our own production line in the Yibin District of Luoyang, where steel office furniture has been our focus for 9 years. School orders make up the largest portion of our export business. After handling enough of these orders, we know what procurement officers care about: safety, easy assembly, and reliable lead times. Price matters too, but we generally won’t come in at the absolute lowest bid—some manufacturers quote 30% lower, and when you find out how, it’s always because they skipped the base weighting or thinned out the steel. That’s not a sustainable way to do business.

If you’re procuring bookshelves for a school, library, or educational institution, contact us directly for the latest quotation and product catalog. Factory visits are welcome—if you’re in Luoyang, we can arrange an on-site walkthrough.
