Seafood Processing Stainless Steel Racks — Saltwater-Resistant Units Built for Daily High-Pressure Washdowns
Why seafood plant racks die fast
Seafood processing is the hardest environment for shelving. Shrimp shells, fish scales, brine runoff — and high-pressure hoses hitting everything twice a day.
Regular painted steel racks start blistering within six months. By year one, the edges are rusted through. The coating failure alone is enough to fail a food safety audit.
304 stainless solves the material problem. But if the rack has crevices — shelf-to-post gaps, clip slots, bolt holes — brine seeps in and rust starts from the inside. By the time you spot it, the rack is already loose.
We talked to maintenance managers at several seafood plants. One put it this way: “Nobody cares about the rack until it breaks. But when it breaks, the line stops for half a day. Half a day of downtime costs more than the rack itself.”

201 vs 304 — for seafood, go 304
We make both. 201 is fine for dry storage. But in seafood processing — the washdown areas, the cold rooms, anywhere brine hits — 304 is the right call. The corrosion resistance difference is night and day.
201 will get you two years. 304 will go five or more. The upfront difference pays for itself.
Raw stainless — no coating to fail
Painted racks have one weak point: the coating. Once it chips, moisture gets behind it and rust spreads under the surface. You don’t see it until the paint bubbles or falls off. In a seafood plant, that’s a contamination source.

Raw stainless steel has no coating. Nothing to chip, nothing to peel. In HACCP audits, peeling paint on shelving is a write-up item. Raw stainless isn’t.
Butterfly-buckle KD — built to be taken apart and washed
Our racks use butterfly snap clips — stainless steel, no screws. Pop a shelf off, take it to the wash station, hit it with a pressure washer. Top, bottom, clip slots — every surface gets cleaned. Snap it back on in ten seconds.
A fully welded rack can’t do that. Once it’s installed, whatever you can’t reach stays dirty forever.
KD knockdown also saves on shipping. Shelves and uprights stack flat. One container holds three to four times more KD racks than welded ones.
Painted steel rack vs. KD stainless — one table
| Painted Steel | KD Stainless | |
|---|---|---|
| Coating | Chips in year one | Raw steel, no coating |
| Saltwater | Rusts through in 12 months | 304 handles it |
| Cleaning | Wipe only, blind spots | Shelves off, full pressure wash |
| Shipping | Flat-packed, lower cost | Welded = bulky, costs more |
| Lifespan | Replace yearly | Years of service |
Seafood Processing Stainless Steel Racks |Who uses these
- Fish and shrimp processing plants — Washdown areas running all day. Shelves come off for cleaning, line stays running.
- Crab and shellfish processors — High brine exposure. 304 stainless with stainless butterfly clips — nothing rusts or seizes.
- Cold storage and freezer warehouses — High humidity, sub-zero temps. Regular steel racks rot from the inside. KD stainless handles it, and the knock-down build makes it easy to move racks in and out of cold rooms.
- Seafood export packing facilities — Export food safety certification requires washable, non-shedding shelving. Stainless KD meets the standard out of the box.

FAQ
Q: 201 or 304 for seafood processing?
201 works for light use. For washdown zones and brine-heavy areas, go 304. The extra cost is small compared to replacing racks every two years.
Q: Will the butterfly clips rust or seize in saltwater?
The clips are stainless steel, same grade as the rack. On 304 models, they won’t rust.
Q: Load capacity?
300-500kg per shelf depending on configuration. Tell us what you’re storing — whole frozen fish or loose raw material — and we’ll spec the right build.
Q: MOQ?
Standard sizes start at a few dozen units. For first-time buyers, a sample order is the smart way to check the build.
Q: Packaging for sea freight?
Moisture film wrap + corner protectors + flat-packed KD. Arrives clean, no rust, no dings.
Q: OEM?
Yes. Silk-screen logo, custom dimensions, custom packaging. We do export, we know the process.
Q: Warranty?
One year. Stainless is inherently durable. If there’s a structural defect, it shows within 12 months.
Q: Quote turnaround?
24 hours.
